Chocolat by Lasse Hallström, 2000

with Juliette Binoche, Johnny Depp, Judi Dench, Alfred Molina, Lena Olin, Carrie-Anne Moss, Aurelien Parent Koenig, Antonio Gil-Martinez, Peter Stormare, Leslie Caron, John Wood, Hugh O'Conor, Victoire Thivisol

A single mother and her young daughter move into a peaceful French village and open a chocolate shop during the height of Lent. At first, the shop's rich, sensuous desserts scandalize the town. But the villagers soon learn to savor the sweetness.

Not Because of Carrie-Anne Moss. Although. But it is hard to believe this same filmmaker did Casanova and Chocolat. One is brilliant, in its cliché France, the other one is ridiculous. I believe the cast of this movie made the movie worth it, Juliette Binoche, as well as Judy Dench, Lena Olin and Alfred Molina are just great. The story has this delicacy and deliciousness of the chocolate, it is funny. Perhaps, the side that goes wrong is the love story with Johnny Depp but it is enough secondary to make us forget about it. Refreshing.
