How to train your dragon by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, 2010 (PG)

with Jay Baruchel (Cosmopolis), Gerard Butler (Playing for keeps), Craig Ferguson (Brave), America Ferrera, Jonah Hill (Moneyball), Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller (Unstoppable, Our Idiot Brother), Kristen Wiig (All Good Things, Bridesmaids, Date Night), Robin Atkin Downes, David Tennant

As the son of a Viking leader on the cusp of manhood, shy Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III faces a rite of passage: He must kill a dragon to prove his warrior mettle. But after downing a feared dragon, he realizes that he no longer wants to destroy it. So, he befriends the beast -- which he names Toothless -- much to the chagrin of his warrior father in this Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated adaptation of Cressida Cowell's children's book.

One of the best animation movies for children (and adults) in a very long time. It is funny, intelligent, sophisticated (I am not talking about the vikings, obviously), the myth is well exploited, the final steps of the story are actually full of surprise and not taking the shortcut of happy ending. They basically did not choose to make the movie dumb to fit a kid mentality, it is created to enlighten and entertain, no matter your age.
